The Leadership Roadmap, a feature in the Sounding Board app, allows users to chart their leadership development objectives and track their advancement. It serves as a guiding framework for developmental journeys.
The Leadership Roadmap is accessible to all users, yet it shines brightest when employed collaboratively within an engagement, be it coaching or mentoring. Within an engagement, both users have access to the leader's Leadership Roadmap and goals created.
Goals are the specific, desired leadership behaviors that an individual wants to be activating on a daily basis in their leadership and are designed to be regularly updated with insights, actions, and results.
2. Navigate to the “Leadership Roadmap” option on the left-hand navigation panel.
3. Add Insight
Insights are the new areas of awareness that surface for an individual through their development process. In an engagement, insights may be thought of as the "a-ha’s" and the realizations that emerge for an individual as a result of the work they are doing during or in between sessions. Insights contribute to the mindset shifts that are necessary to lead to sustainable behavior change.
Navigate to the desired goal and -
- Click "+ ADD INSIGHT"
4. Add Insight
Fill in your insight; as a prompt -
- What did you learn during your session? This can also be any aha moment or new perspective that you gained.
- Click "DONE"
Note: You have the ability to go back and edit and update your insights, actions, and goals while a goal is in progress.
5. Add Action
Actions are specific leadership behaviors (or ways of being) that an individual commits to enacting as a result of the insights that have emerged.
- Click "ADD ACTION TO THIS INSIGHT"
Note: You'll see that each Action is linked to one specific Insight, which we will later see is related to one specific Result. You can add multiple Insights to your goal.
6. Add Action
Fill in your action; as a prompt -
- What’s the action you plan to take based on the learning and insight you have gained so far?
- Click "DONE"
7. Add Result
Results are the actual or perceived impact an individual had or made by taking the actions documented; most likely, there will be time between adding insights & actions and then results. Where the action, asks "Did you take the action?"
- Click "Yes"
8. Add Result
Document the results of the actions -
-
Select Yes/No for Did you get the desired results?
- If yes, select How often will you continue to use this approach?
- Fill in What was the result of your action?
- Click "DONE"
💡 Tip: The Leadership Roadmap isn’t meant to be linear; instead, it’s meant to be flexible to respond to each individual’s different way of learning. For some, new insights will lead to new actions, leading to results. Others might experience results from something and then engage in self-reflection to identify what they did (action) and why they did it (insight). And for others, they might act differently, assess the results, and then engage in self-reflection to identify the learning (insights).
9. Edit Insights, Actions, or Results
You have the ability to update your insights, actions, and/or results on active goals at any time.
- Click the edit/pencil icon next to the information you want to update
- Make applicable changes, and
Click "DONE"
